Before + Better

I redesigned MEATER’s device pairing screen to eliminate inconsistencies across iOS/Android, strengthen brand alignment, and build user confidence during setup.

Situation

As MEATER’s app continued to expand across Android and iOS, user trust was being compromised by an outdated, error-prone pairing screen.

On Android, content often appeared scrambled or misaligned, while on iOS, the layout still clung to legacy templates. Internally, teams agreed: the screen didn’t reflect the premium experience MEATER was known for.

Task

Redesign the device pairing screen to:

  • Eliminate technical and visual inconsistencies across platforms

  • Convey a premium, luxury product experience

  • Improve user trust and first impressions

  • Provide ready-to-deploy assets for both light and dark mode

  • Increase user confidence in device setup

  • Include a rotating device visual to aid recognition

  • Hand off developer-ready assets including light/dark mode video elements

Action

  • Researched Bluetooth-pairing flows across comparable smart products like Oura, Fitbit, and Bose to benchmark interaction standards

  • Proposed a rotating 3D icon/video of the specific probe model during pairing to clearly signal correct device identification

  • Created Hi-Fi prototypes in Figma, with multiple visual directions tested internally

  • Developed both light and dark mode assets, enhancing the experience regardless of user settings

  • Maintained consistency with MEATER’s existing design language while subtly evolving the brand—e.g. logo integration within the pairing title

  • Collaborated across product, visual design, and QA to meet an aggressive release schedule

Results

  • The redesigned pairing screen launched in July 2025 across Android and iOS

  • Initial internal feedback indicates improved brand alignment and visual polish

  • Boosted internal stakeholder satisfaction with a more cohesive onboarding moment

  • Qualitative reports show a reduction in setup confusion and improved confidence during onboarding

  • Full user engagement metrics (drop-off rate, error reduction, etc.) are currently being tracked and evaluated post-release

  • Project is now serving as a foundation for future onboarding enhancements, including personalized setup recommendations

Ideation

Using a mind map, I began to brainstorm. I also dove into research on cutting edge designs by looking at dribble and doing both Android and iOS competitor research.

Rapid Prototyping

Using a pop up bottom sheet, I created the fist Hi-Fi version of the Prototype for review.

Styles & Components

Keeping the companies established font styles, I added a twist by incorporating the logo design into the title for the product.

I also created light and dark mode video assets for the pop up screen that the developers could utilize.

Dev Ready Handoff

Dev Ready Handoff

A fully annoted dev ready page was ccreated in the Figma ffile, clearly organized and marked as ready in dev mode!

Key Learnings

  • Seamless initial connect UI generates user confidence + luxury design starts with thoughtful micro-interactions.

  • Cross-platform consistency requires hyper-awareness of system-level differences, especially in Android UI.

  • Motion elements, when used sparingly and purposefully, can bridge the gap between digital experience and physical product.

  • Interdepartmental alignment and fast iteration were key to shipping on time without sacrificing detail.
